BL.   When I joined DGC in 1976, very few professionals were there in this field, I thought this must be interesting to learn about Turf maintenance. I observed different maintenance practices to maintain Turfgrass and Golf Course. In Year 1982, “Asian Games” was conducted in our country and Delhi Golf Course was the venue for the game of Golf. During course preparation I learnt many essential practices from “Mr.R.C.Durant (Turf Specialist)” and then finally decided to choose GCS as a career.

BL.   I got my first “On the job training” in Delhi Golf Club where I learnt basics of golf course maintenance. After spending few years there, I joined “Bahrain Golf Club” as a Golf Course Superintendent. This was the first Green Golf Course of State of Bahrain as earlier they were playing on browns. I use to operate both the Toro Irrigation system and Turf care machinery on ground. Also I worked with “Ranjit Nanda Associates” for the construction of Arnold Palmer designed DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurgaon.

BL.   Management of manpower and resources, correct application of chemicals & fertilizers, specific and timely dose of pesticides to control any kind of disease or pest are the greatest challenges. The most difficult challenge is to satisfy Golfers of different category like Pro, Beginners, Amateurs and Veteran Golfers.

BL.   Discussion with the professionals of same industry, attending seminars, workshops and visiting new/old golf courses.

BL.   It’s very challenging but when you meet Golfers daily to know their complaints about tee marker and cup location it can be easily handled, I never make distances with the Golfers.

BL.   Every golf course has its own unique flora and fauna, which is maintained and also has the protected area. Definitely it reduces the environmental pollution, increases biodiversity, protects water resources, protects top soil from erosion and increases the landscaping values.

BL.   We use only natural source of water for irrigation.

BL.   The entire Golf industry recognizes me just because of my work and dedication towards Golf Maintenance. This is the most rewarding aspect for me.

BL.   Yes of course, because GCS profession has become my habit and daily routine, so I will continue with the same profession.

BL.   Timely mowing, aeration, verticutting, topdressing and other maintenance practices. Take steps proactively to avoid any kind of damage like disease or pest attack. Also do timely repair of pitch/ball marks, filling divots and raking bunkers.
