GII. Why did you choose Golf Course Superintendent as a career?

PN.   Got an opportunity to work for Bangalore Golf Club when I was looking for a change from floriculture in the year 2000 and continued with the same.

GII. What type of ‘on the job training’ have you had in the field

PN.   Bangalore Golf Club in association with their designer Mr Phil Ryan deputed me to EAGLETON GOLF RESORT for a training. Over and above the 12 years of EOU model floriculture work experience came to a big help when managing soils and diseases.

GII. What type of education, classes, seminars, or other training you have in the field of Turf Grass management?

PN.  Attended    1.   Education seminars conducted by GCSMAA several times.

                            2.   Equipments seminars conducted by IPI/TORO, Rainbird

                            3.   Golf industry shows

                            4.   Interaction with other golf course superintendents and colleagues.

GII. Describe the different challenges you face as a Golf Course superintendent. What seems to be the biggest challenge for you and why?

PN.   1.   Poorly constructed golf courses due to lack of knowledge on local conditions like weeds, water availability, soil conditions, climatic conditions etc

         2.   Working with association committees.

         3.   Issues related to quality of construction due to poor advice from foreign technicians.

         4.   Managing water for golf course where STP water back up is not available.

GII. What would you do to further your knowledge of proper Course Maintenance?

PN.   Course needs to be constructed properly keeping in mind the kind of local issues that would arise in future. All issues starting from killing of existing grass before constructing a golf course till it becomes routine maintenance, utmost care should be taken. Thereafter superintendent can concentrate on maintaining golf course to international standards.

GII.   How are challenging situations handled involving Golfers who have concerns or complaints regarding the tee marker and Cup locations?

PN.   I follow a fair pin locations like 6 easy, 6 medium, 6 tough equally distributed to front, centre and back. Tee markers locations are placed equally in different areas – front, centre and back.

GII. What is your opinion of Golf Courses in relation to the Environment?

PN.   Golf is always environmental friendly. The amount of grass surface area exposed for oxygen production is one of the highest per unit of ground.

GII. If your course uses effluent water, what process is used to prepare it for use on the course?

PN.   Tertiary treatment plant

GII. What have been the most rewarding aspects of your profession?

PN.   Recognition and remuneration

GII. Knowing what you do now, if you had a chance to start your career over, would you again choose the Golf Course Superintendent? If yes, why?

PN.   Yes. Because there is more respect here for Golf Course superintendent when compared to other agri-based fields.

GII. Best practice which you would like to share with other Golf Courses Superintendents.

PN.   Integrated golf course management.
